Temples and Festivals

Temple fairs (miao hui) are normally held on Festive or specified days such as the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) Beijing temple fairs mainly feature cultural performances and markets for traditional handicrafts. Beijing has some spectacular temples such as the world famous Temple of Heaven and the Buddhist Lama temple at Yong He Gong scene of the colourful and dramatic Devil dance which takes place on the last day of the first Lunar month(March). Dongyue temple was built over 700 years ago and has survived a turbulent history. Dongyue can now be described as a Taoist oasis of calm in a bustling Beijing There are literally hundreds of Temples, Mosques and Churches of many denominations in Beijing
